News Release: Michigan Catholic Conference Statement on Appointment of Mike Flanagan as Superintendent of Public Instruction

(LANSING)—Michigan Catholic Conference Vice President for Public Policy Paul A. Long made the following statement on the appointment of Mike Flanagan as Superintendent of Public Instruction:

“With 80 percent of Catholic children enrolled in Michigan’s public schools and some 90,000 children enrolled in Catholic schools, the Michigan Catholic Conference has a vested interest in the policies of the new Superintendent of Public Instruction. The Conference welcomes Mike Flanagan as the new superintendent and looks forward to working together to enhance both public and non-public schools alike.

“The Department of Education now embarks upon a new era that requires strong, value-based leadership as many challenges lie ahead. The Conference can think of no better individual to meet those challenges than Mike Flanagan. His broad vision, credibility throughout the state and personal humility will make him a highly effective leader.”

Michigan Catholic Conference is the official public policy voice of the Catholic Church in this state.
